Planning policy and guidance
Development Plans
Development Plans set out a vision for how areas will change and describe where development will take place and where it will not. Planning applications we receive are assessed against land allocations and policies within the development plan. Currently the development plan for Fife consists of the Structure Plan and Local Plans.
There are four levels of planning in Scotland:
- The National Planning Framework for Scotland
- Strategic Development Plans (these will replace Structure Plans)
- Local Development Plans (these will replace Local Plans)
- Supplementary Guidance
Fife is within both the Edinburgh (SESplan) and Dundee (TAYplan) Strategic Development Plan areas.
Fife Council is currently preparing a single Local Development Plan for Fife (FIFEplan). Consultation on the Main Issues Report took place from 14 January to 10 March 2013. For further details please view the Local Development Plan page which can be found through the menu on the left of this page.
We've prepared a Development Plan Scheme which sets out the programme for preparing and reviewing the Fife’s development plans and what is likely to be involved at each stage.
We produce a regular e-bulletin with an update on the progress and status of the different plans which make up the Fife Development Plan. If you would like to receive this directly by email, please register through the online form.
