Learning for leisure

Learning for leisure

Fife’s 13 Community Use Schools offer access to a wide range of excellent recreation and education programmes in an informal friendly atmosphere based within the local community.

You can play a range of sports, get fit or learn a skill for work or leisure. Community Use Schools aim to be accessible for the entire community and provide various discounts and schemes to ensure that everyone can join in the fun.

So what's on offer?
A wide range of courses that are on offer in Community Use Schools lead to a recognised qualification on successful completion of the course. These include sports and recreational provision with nationally accredited courses on offer such as SFA Coach Education, Pool Lifeguard Training and Sports Coach UK modules. We also run a range of certificated educational courses including PC Passport, Sign Language and First Aid.

Fancy developing a particular skill that interests you? The pace of these courses run to suit the individual and with a wide range of practical classes on offer, you’re sure to find something new to get involved in!

There’s a big selection of activities tailor made for children at Community Use Schools throughout Fife and the classes aim to build knowledge and confidence. We offer physical activities such as swimming, football and martial arts as well as classroom based courses including languages and cookery.

New and exciting courses on offer this term include:

  • Introduction to Sound Recording & Studio Production
  • Sign Language
  • Beginners Gaelic
  • 1-2-1 Singing Lessons
  • Pre-school gymnastics (MiniMovers)
  • Pre-school football (MiniKickers)
  • Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate
  • Christmas Cards & Crafts

Courses vary by location - contact your local Community Use School for information on what is available in the area.

Money matters
Course prices vary accordingly to the number of sessions within a term. Currently non-vocational courses start at £3.50 for adults and £2.50 for children, per session. Please contact the Community Use School you wish to attend for prices on individual courses.

We offer a wide range of discounts in conjunction with the Fifestyle card scheme which offers discounts of up to 50%.

The ILA Scotland scheme covers a variety of vocational and non-vocational courses. If you earn £22,000 a year or less or are on benefits you can get up to £200 a year towards the cost of learning, which can be used to pay for the course. The scheme is open to everyone over 16 years of age and available on ILA approved courses running at Community Use Schools throughout Fife.
