School Keep Clear Campaign Launch
Fife Council’s Transportation and Education Services, in conjunction with Fife Constabulary, have launched a campaign to improve safety and reduce traffic congestion outside the school gate.
Cllr Tony Martin Chair of Environment Enterprise and Transportation Committee said; ‘Safety of our school children is paramount. Motorist must take account of the conditions when children are entering and leaving school premises and parents must take care and park appropriately when dropping their children off. It is always safer and better for children if they are encouraged, where possible, to walk to school. This improves children health, reduces congestion at the school gates and reduces the likelihood of accidents. It might take a bit more effort and time but it is worth it.’
Jane Greer, Fife Constabulary’s Road Safety Manager commented ‘The School Keep Clear markings are in place for the benefit of the children entering and leaving the school so they can see traffic clearly and the traffic can see them. Fife Road Safety Unit fully support this campaign as it can contribute to helping reduce casualties on our roads’.
